Lush Skincare

For my first post I thought I’d start with the most important thing I could think of talking about… Skincare. It’s essential to have a good skincare regime as this creates a perfect base for your makeup application to get a flawless finish.

For years I used Clinique and I loved it, I still do but decided to try out Lush as I was getting really dry skin around my eyes and mouth ever since I did my makeup course in February (my skin couldn’t handle having makeup removed up to four times a day). Clinique didn’t seem quite up to the job of dealing with dry skin at that level so I decided to try out Lush because of their natural ingredients which I thought might avoid irritation and reduce redness.

Mask of Magnaminty (Mask)

Ingredients: Honey, Kaolin, Betonite Gel, Talc, Glycerine, Organic Ground Aduki Beans, Evening Primrose Seeds, Peppermint Oil, African Marigold Oil, Fair Trade Vanilla Absolute, Limonene, Perfume, Chlorophyllin

This mask is the first skincare product I used from Lush after every beauty blogger claimed it to be the holy grail of skincare a few years ago. When you first open it, I’ll be honest it doesn’t look so good but push past that because when it’s on it feels refreshing due to the peppermint oil and the african marigold oil and it smells a bit like chocolate chip ice cream (yum!!). When you take the mask off it’ll get the sink a bit messy but despite that you’ll really love this mask, the evening primrose seeds and ground aduki beans act as a gentle exfoliator. When the mask is off you’ll find your skin soft, bright and free of redness thanks to the peppermint oil which simulates the red blood cells just under the surface of the skin.

This mask is perfect if you get breakouts or if you just feel like your skin needs a deep clean to feel refreshed.

Cup O’ Coffee (Mask)

Ingredients: Organic Agave Syrup, Kaolin, Glycerine, Coffee Infusion, Talc, Ground Coffee, Benton Gel (safe synthetic ingredient), Perfume, Vetivert Oil, Fair Trade Vanilla Absolute, Roasted Cocoa Extract (safe synthetic ingredient), Coriander Oil, Caffeine Powder (safe synthetic ingredient), Coumarin, Limonene, Linalool

This mask was a present which I was a little concerned about using when I first opened it as the exfoliator felt rough and my skin is quite sensitive but I decided to give it a shot and I’ve never looked back. I don’t like the smell of coffee at all, in fact I can’t even go in the kitchen when the coffee machine is on but I put up with that for the benefit that coffee has on my skin as it boots circulation to wake up the skin and when I take it off the exfoliator leaves my skin feeling super soft and looking clean and bright.

This mask is perfect to wake you up on a morning as the caffeine is absorbed into the skin and acts the same way a cup of coffee would and the vanilla has an antibacterial effect on the skin and contains vitamins which help to leave skin balanced and healthy.

Angels on Bare Skin (Cleanser)

Ingredients: Ground Almonds, Glycerine, Kaolin, Water, Lavender Oil, Rose Absolute, Chamomile Blue Oil, Tagetes Oil, Benzoin Resinoid, Lavender Flowers, Limonene, Linalool

This cleanser is the first of my brand new skincare range, it is based on a medieval recipe and it’s amazing. One of my main concerns when I started my new regime was that I had very dry, red skin which was making me feel very self-conscious. The ingredients in this cleanser all worked together to remove the dry skin and reduce redness; the kaolin and ground almonds exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells while the rose absolute moisturises and the lavender oil soothes the skin to reduce redness. To use this cleanser you have to get out a small amount from the tub and run it under water, this will form a paste and the ground almonds create almond oil which moisturises, tones and brightens the skin.

I could never go back from this cleanser now, although it can get a little messy, it really cleared up my skin. It’s perfect for anyone with dry, red skin like me and I’m sure it would work on other skin types too as the kaolin absorbs grease which would be helpful of oily skin.

Breath of Fresh Air (Toner)

Ingredients: Spring Water, Fresh Sea Water, Fair Trade Organic Aloe Vera Gel, Perfume, Carrageenan Extract, Rose Absolute, Patchouli Oil, Rosemary Oil, Seaweed Absolute, Limonene, Linalool, Methylparaben

Toner was one of the things I wanted to change most as the Clinique toner contains alcohol. I’ve never understood why some toners have alcohol in them so I did some research and I found that its used to thin the products to make them a bit more aesthetically pleasing and also to break down the skins barrier so other products can be more easily absorbed which may sound good as it means the good ingredients can get into the skin but it’s actually really bad as your skin needs that barrier to keep the bad stuff out. Alcohol can also cause irritation and damage its ability to repair itself and produce healthy collagen. Lush toner don’t include any alcohol and this one is much more refreshing and moisturising than the Clinique one that I used. The rose-water and aloe vera in the toner helps reduce redness which as you know was really important to me so that’s what sold this product to me but it also the seaweed is rich in vitamins and protects sensitive skin.

When I bought this they recommended I also use it as a spray to refresh my skin in the summer, I doubt I’d ever need that living in England but next time I go on holiday I’ll definitely try it out.

Skin Drink (moisturiser)

Ingredients: Water, Fair Trade Organic Sesame Oil, Fresh Rose Petal Infusion, Fresh Avocado, Almond Oil, Propylene Glycol, Fair Trade Cocoa Butter, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Aloe Vera Extract, Fair Trade Organic Aloe Vera Gel, Organic Evening Primrose Oil, Neroli Oil, Rose Absolute, Triethanolamine, Geraniol, Farnesol, Limonene, Linalool, Citronellol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

Some people find this too moisturising but I love it, sometimes though I actually find I still need a little extra moisture afterwards. This moisturiser includes a lot of really hydrating ingredients such as organic evening primrose oil which works on eczema and psoriasis but on top of that the organic sesame seed oil contains vitamin E which keeps the skin smooth and firm.

A new skincare regime can cause breakouts and look like it’s not working for about three weeks, I’ve been using these products for about 2 weeks now and these products have already saved my skins I’m really excited to see how my skin is in another couple of weeks.
